A man was charged with assault of a peace officer and public intoxication after police responded to a report of a suspicious person.
On Monday, August 23, 2021, police received a report of a suspicious person near Division Street and King Street in the Town of Cobourg.
The complainant reported that a man hit the back of the complainant’s vehicle window and was now in the middle of the road.
Upon arrival, police located a man matching the description provided.
Subsequent police investigation determined that he was intoxicated.
Police attempted to make the arrest, and the man became combative.
Police deployed a conductive energy weapon and were able to affect the arrest without injury.
As a result, 30-year-old Matthew Vetor of Newtonville was charged with the following offences:
1. Assault Peace Officer x 2
2. Assault with Intent to Resist Arrest
3. Being intoxicated in a public place
Vetor was held until sober and later released on an undertaking with conditions.
