People driving around Picton are likely to see picketers standing outside Revera Hallowell House Long Term Care Home.
Information pickets are being held by some staff and supporters in protest of the future layoffs of seven full-time personal support workers and three full-time registered practical nurses.
According to CountyLive the layoffs are coming due to a provincial mandate that the number of patients in a ward room be reduced from four to two in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The mandate means Hallowell House’s capacity has dropped from 98 to 68 residents.
There are about 60 staff at Hallowell House with most being represented by Unifor Local 8300 which maintains the facility had been understaffed as is and that resident care will be adversely affected by layoffs.
