The City of Belleville is going to look to another set of eyes to help keep Downtown Belleville safe.
At a special meeting of council Tuesday, members will vote on a six-month trial to have a paid duty officer in the area from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m Monday to Friday.
The report before council talks about issues of safety and security in the downtown, and the Riverfront Trail.
It also discusses the numerous steps taken to assist the homeless population, including the Grace Inn Shelter, programs with Hastings County, the Salvation Army, Bridge Street United, and more.
Belleville Police say their peak time for calls in the downtown are between 3 p.m. and 10 p.m.
The trial will cost more than $55,500 and if approved, will be brought back to council after six months
