There will be no criminal charges laid against two Belleville Police Service officers in connection with a man who suffered an overdose last April.
Special Investigations Unit Director Joseph Martino has found there are no reasonable grounds to believe that officers committed a criminal offence.
On April 23 of this year, officers from Belleville Police, Kingston Police and the OPP arrested a 35-year-old man on outstanding warrants at a Geddes Street residence.
He was arrested without incident.
The man fell into medical distress while he was in his cell and officers called paramedics who took him to hospital.
The man, who had consumed one gram of crystal methamphetamine before his arrest, was placed in a medically-induced coma for eight days.
Director Martino found that neither officer failed in their duty of care toward the man, adding there was no evidence to suggest the man had consumed drugs while in police custody.
The SIU says the file has been closed.
