Any on-campus Loyalist College students and staff heading back to school in September will need to get a COVID-19 vaccine first.
Loyalist College President Dr. Ann Marie Vaughan announced via press release Tuesday that the college is mandating COVID-19 vaccines for students and staff on the advice of Hastings Prince Edward Public Health.
The press release cites “concerning developments in the spread of COVID-19 and its variants” as factors in the decision.
The policy states that all students and staff must be fully vaccinated, meaning they must have had two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, by November 1.
Because the vaccine is not fully active until 14 days after the initial shot, a person must get their second dose no later than October 18 in order to meet the November 1 deadline.
Anyone who is not fully vaccinated by November 1 will not be allowed access to campus unless a medical exemption is provided.
From September 7 to November 1, any students or staff who are not fully vaccinated will need to produce a negative result on a rapid COVID-19 test before being allowed to enter.
The tests will be available on campus until November 1 after which a full vaccination status, or an exemption, will be the only way to get on campus.
There will be on-campus vaccination clinics available beginning August 30.
