North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) is clarifying a story Quinte News published Sunday August 15, 2021.
The story, attributed to information discovered in an online publication known as EurAsian Times, suggested the pilot of a 429 Squadron Globemaster transport aircraft had to take evasive action after seeing a bright green object in Canadian airspace July 30.
NORAD confirms an unknown object was seen in the sky by the Globemaster crew, based out of CFB Trenton, but that no evasive action was taken.
A climb of 300 metres by the aircraft was simply a normal manoeuvre to get the plane to an altitude suitable for a transatlantic flight.
The Globemaster crew, as per procedures, reported the sighting to NAV Canada, and carried on with the flight without incident.
EurAsian Times wrote that a KLM passenger aircraft’s crew had also spotted an unknown object in the sky July 30.
