The Belleville Downtown Business Improvement area’s “Welcoming Streets” program has been a success so far.
The BIA’s welcoming streets steward, Sarah Behring, has been downtown daily since June offering outreach to businesses and marginalized people. She has connected a number of people in need with various social services in the area.
Behring can be seen downtown sporting a bright orange or yellow shirt and can offer assistance, including immediate supplies, support for businesses and helping people in distress.
She also has materials available on housing, food, harm-reduction and mental health and will soon be offering workshops on mental health and addictions.
