The Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation’s Back the Build campaign towards a new hospital in Picton received another big boost Friday.
Outside Re/Max Quinte’s new offices on Loyalist Parkway in Picton, representatives of the PECMHF announced that the group from Re/Max Quinte had shattered their original fundraising goal of $250,000 and finished with a total of $354,261.
Re/Max began their fundraising in 2000 with a goal of $98,600. Since surpassing that number they have continued to increase the goal. In 2014 the group upped the goal to $250,000.
Tim McKinney tells Quinte News that the annual Teeing Up Fore Health Care golf tournament and the generosity of the Re/Max agents are the big fundraising drivers.
“Primarily the last six years we’ve done this golf tournament. Typically it happens in June but this year we happen to have deferred it to September but it has sold out every year and we get great event sponsors and supports, so it’s a big part of it. As well, each agent can voluntarily give a portion of their transaction so that makes a big difference when you get that kind of team spirit within an office to support a good local cause.”
The golf tournament in September has been booked solid and has a waiting list.
The funds from this year’s golf tournament will go towards replacing the ultrasound machine that will be put into the old hospital and moved to the new one when it’s complete.
According to representatives of the PECMHF 2,234 patients required the use of the ultrasound machine in 2020 and the current machine is three years past its recommended lifespan.
The new ultrasound machine will cost $184,931.
