Farmers in the Quinte area are benefitting from the the latest rain storms.
The farmers’ fields had been extra dry throughout June, then the latest rain storms hit.
Lloyd Crowe, Director of Grain Farmers of Ontario District 13, tells Quinte News the corn has “jumped a foot since this latest downpour.”
“You can almost watch it grow. Yeah, the soy beans and the farmers’ hay crops are going to be replenished.”
Crowe says he expects this rain will keep the fields good for a week or ten days.
He also points out that prices are good for the grain crops, soybeans, wheat and corn.
“Prices are good. Usually you don’t get both. You don’t get good crop and good prices. It’s usually one or the other.”
Crowe, a Prince Edward County farmer, points out that the wheat harvest is about a week away.
“The fields are golden right now and if you drive by any wheat fields, the kernels just squash between your thumb and your finger. They still need another week drying I think.”
And, in his words, “The prices are good.”
