The MPP for the Bay of Quinte riding is responding to Hastings County’s concern over cuts to county-run long term care homes.
Earlier in the week Warden Rick Phillips said cuts of $203,000 to Hastings Manor in Belleville and $48,000 to Centennial Manor in Bancroft are out of step with what the Ontario Government has prioritized. Phillips said it was unacceptable.
Friday morning on the Lorne Brooker Show, Todd Smith said the issue is with the funding stream, and LTCs will be getting more money, not less.
“The Premier’s made commitments over and over again, about the fact that we’re going to be providing four hours of care per resident by 2025 in Ontario. We’d be the first jurisdiction in Canada to do that. That’s going to take money.”
He says we’re in transition from the former funding model, called Case Mix Index, to a new funding stream, which will see more money for Long Term Care.
