The Quinte Home Builders Association is looking to foster a relationship with county planning staff moving forward.
At Tuesday’s meeting, Jon Van Huizen of the QHBA said they want to be a part of the solution to planning slowdowns and the housing problem in the county.
“We’re in support of the proposal to increase the fees. We’re in support of the commitment to improving the system. We ask that you make us a part of it. We ask that you help us to help you to continue to develop a framework for efficiencies that we gather together as developers so that we can give you that unified voice.”
County council passed a new planning fee structure and planning process changes geared towards efficiency.
Van Huizen talked about how in the past there have been major slowdowns in the planning process that often leads to projects not breaking ground until years after the application process was started.
The new planning application process involves circulating planning application materials to appropriate advisory committees and First Nations groups as well as engaging a larger portion of residents in nearby areas of proposed developments.
The Quinte Home Builders Association represents components of the residential construction industry in the Quinte region including builders, developers, planners and contractors.
