Prince Edward County council got the ball rolling on a new long term care home in Picton at Tuesday’s meeting.
Council voted in favour of awarding the contract for detailed design of the new 160 bed long term care home to HDR Architecture Associates Inc., with a price tag of $2,127,570.
County council sent out the request for proposals in February for all 10 phases of the design of the project. HDR was selected out of five suitors coming in at the second lowest cost and the second highest final technical score after assessment.
The new home will be in Picton on existing property near the site of the current H.J McFarland long term care home at 603 County Road 49. The new home will act as a replacement for the H.J McFarland home.
There will be consultation with residents, the H.J McFarland family counsel and stakeholders.
Now that the contract has been awarded planning is expected to begin in early July.
The projected completion date for the project is set for late 2024.
