8 a.m. UPDATE:
Highway 401 eastbound remains closed around Kingston after a collision between two tractor-trailers and a subsequent fire early Wednesday.
The collision occurred around 3 o’clock in the morning and one of the transports ended up on its side and another was fully engulfed in flames.
Fortunately there were only minor injuries.
It’s not known when 401 east will reopen in the Kingston area.
RELEASE FROM THE OPP
On June 16, 2021 shortly before 3:00 a.m., Frontenac Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a vehicle fire from a tractor trailer that was parked on the shoulder of Highway 401 in the city of Kingston.
A transport truck driver had stopped on the east bound shoulder when another transport truck collided with the parked vehicle. A fire ensued on the second transport truck. Kingston Fire department extinguishing the fully engulfed transport truck.
All east bound lanes of Highway 401 near Joyceville, are closed. An emergency Detour Route is in effect.
No persons were inside the vehicle at the time of the fire. Kingston Paramedics attended the scene and transported one driver to Kingston General Hospital as a precautionary measure.
The OPP and Ministry of the Environment are continuing with this investigation. Charges are pending.
