As of 4 p.m. Wednesday, the amount of money raised for the Enrichment Centre for Mental Health through the Maurice Rollins Day of Remembrance has hit over $30,000.
Since 7 a.m. Wednesday, Quinte Broadcasting stations have been running special programming centred around Rollins, who passed away in early June, and his contributions to mental health in the Bay of Quinte.
Rollins, a successful businessman and enthusiastic philanthropist, was open about his struggles with mental health throughout his life and was a champion of mental health services.
His story was captured by local writer Orland French in a biography about Rollins titled “The Remarkable Journey of Maurice Rollins”. The biography is still available for purchase and the proceeds go towards the local mental health association at Rollins’s request.
Anyone looking to purchase the biography can contact the Hastings County Historical Society at president@hastingshistory.ca.
The funds raised through the Maurice Rollins Day of Remembrance are being contributed to the Enrichment Centre for Mental Health in Belleville.
If you’d like to donate you can call the Enrichment Centre at 613-969-8874 until 6 p.m.
The Rollins family has agreed to match donations up to $50,000.
