Discussions surrounding Canada Day are on the docket for Monday’s Belleville Council meeting.
With the national holiday fast approaching many municipalities are ramping up plans as COVID-19 restrictions lift.
The discussions in Belleville Monday, however, could also include the involvement of an Indigenous component in light of the discovery of the bodies of 215 children at a former residential school site in B.C. last month.
Saturday the Prince Edward County Canada Day committee told county council that they will not be participating in the celebration this year to stand in solidarity with Indigenous people.
County council is in discussion on how to proceed and similar discussions are also happening in Quinte West.
