Centre Hastings council is asking others in the region to support a resolution urging the provincial government to take action on the gypsy moth infestation which has people alarmed throughout the area.
Centre Hastings Mayor Tom Deline says the resolution asks that the province survey the entire region this fall and prepare a treatment program, such as aerial spraying, in hot spots next year.
Deline says the moth’s caterpillars are destroying trees and causing serious problems in many parts of Hastings County.
“I’m sure they’ve (province) got to be monitoring, in my mind it’s a provincewide issue, not just here, but I know probably of our 14 municipalities there’s at least six that I know of that it’s bothering quite a bit.”
Residents in Quinte West have appeared before council on various occasions complaining about the damage caused by gypsy moths.
