A condominium project in the form of bungalow townhouses proposed for Cloverleaf Drive in Belleville is running into opposition from residents in that area.
Local builder GCL Developments wants to build 31 townhouses on vacant land beside Boyd Park and is asking the Planning Advisory Committee to recommend a rezoning to allow them.
A resident living across from the property said she and many others were against the plan because the townhouses would immediately double the traffic, double the number of people, and double the noise in the quiet older neighbourhood.
As it stands there are only about 30 houses on Cloverleaf Drive.
Resident Kate Donaldson told the committee that the proposed townhouses were beautiful but there were just too many of them proposed for the property, suggesting an acceptable number of housing units would be around 15, not 31.
A petition with 141 signatures from people against the plan will be presented to the city soon.
City staff will report back to committee with a recommendation in future.
