Two Quinte Red Devils were taken in the 2021 OHL Priority Selection Draft’s first three rounds Friday.
The Windsor Spitfires spent their first round selection at fourth overall on Ethan Miedema, a left winger for Quinte.
Miedema, 16, is from Cobourg and managed a whopping 95 points with 44 goals and 51 assists in just 42 games during the 2019-20 season. According to EliteProspects he stands 6’3 and 181 pounds at just 16 years old.
According to the Quinte Red Devils organization, Miedema’s selection at fourth overall is the highest ever in team history, beating out Brady Gilmour who went sixth overall to the Saginaw Spirit in 2015.
That wasn’t the last time a name from the Quinte Red Devils was called Friday.
Cal Uens, a right shot defenceman, was picked by the Owen Sound Attack in the third round at 42nd overall. Uens, who hails from Napanee, scored 14 goals and added 37 assists for 51 points in 42 games in the 2019-20 season according to EliteProspects. Uens stands 5’8 and weighs 154 pounds.
The draft continues Saturday.
At the time of writing, an additional three players from the Qunite Red Devils have been selected in the draft.
Right winger Ethan Quick was taken in the fourth round at 64th overall by the Ottawa 67s, four picks later teammate and centre Jack Dever was taken 68th overall in the same round by the 67s and defenceman Duncan Schneider was taken 94th overall in the fifth round by the Kingston Frontenacs.
