The Hastings and Prince Edward Learning Foundation is overwhelmed by support for the Food for Learning program.
The Now More than Ever campaign was launched last fall raising more than $300,000 for local student nutrition programs.
The Food for Learning program’s budget increased significantly this school year because of the pandemic.
They could not buy in bulk as in previous years because food items now need to be individually portioned and prepackaged which is more expensive.
Food for Learning has remained active through this third wave of the pandemic even though schools are closed, providing a monthly $50 grocery card to students who need support.
That support will continue through the summer.
The organization anticipates that next year, the student nutrition programs will initially look very similar to the programs offered this year, with single serve food items being offered to all students.
While there are concerns about next year’s budget, it’s also hoped fundraising events will be able to take place.
Donations to the Food for Learning program can be mailed to The Hasting and Prince Edward Learning Foundation (HPE Learning Foundation) with a notation at the bottom of your cheque of Food for Learning, 156 Ann Street, Belleville, ON K8N 3L3, or made on line by visiting our website hpefoodforlearning.ca or by calling 613-966-1170, ext. 62232.
