Several local paramedics will be honoured this week during Paramedic Services Week.
Due to COVID-19, there will not be any formal ceremony this year but Hastings-Quinte Paramedic Services is presenting awards to several staff to celebrate and recognize their accomplishments.
Among the awards, 12-year Service Medals are going to four people.
Thirty-six paramedics will be receiving “Save Pins” for resuscitating patients.
Five “Stork Pins” are being handed out to paramedics who helped deliver babies.
Also being recognized is Graham Christie who retired with 50 years of dedicated service.
Hastings County Warden Rick Phillips says, “Throughout this COVID-19 pandemic,and beyond,we have been witness to the extraordinary efforts of our paramedics. They should be recognized as the heroes they truly are.”
The theme of this year’s Paramedic Services Week is “Paramedic as Educator – Citizen Ready” and demonstrates the important role that paramedics play as educators to the public
There will be several events held this week (May 23-29) to educate the public on several aspects of a paramedic’s responsibilities that could also help save a life.
