Quick response by the Mohawk and Tyendinaga fire departments kept a house from burning to the ground on the Tyendinaga Territory early Tuesday.
Firefighters were called to 2185 York Road at 2:20 in the morning to find flames coming from the attic of the two-storey older wood frame home.
Fortunately the family living there were all out of the house safely.
Firefighters kept the fire damage limited to the attic area but there was smoke and water damage to the rest of the house.
The cause is under investigation.
