The number of COVID-19 cases in the Hastings Prince Edward health unit region continued its downward trend this week.
Since Saturday, May 15 there have been 49 new COVID-19 cases reported in Hastings and Prince Edward counties, down from 55 the week before.
The number of new Variant of Concern cases also slowed with 39 identified this week compared to 60 the previous week.
To date, there have been 450 total VOC cases identified.
There was, however, another new COVID-19 related death reported which brings that total to 11 since the pandemic began.
As of Friday, May 21, there have been 81,844 doses of COVID-19 vaccine administered in the region. In the past week there were 8,610 doses given including an additional 841 people getting their second dose.
Those numbers translate to 45% of the population in HPE having received its first dose and 4% having been fully vaccinated.
Hospitalization numbers fell slightly through the course of the past week. On Saturday, May 15, there were 15 people in hospital with six people being treated in the Intensive Care Unit and five people on ventilators.
As of Friday, there are 12 people in hospital with six people in the ICU and six on ventilators.
