Belleville fire prevention officials say five cars caught fire in a parking lot in the city’s industrial park on Thursday afternoon.
Firefighters were called to the lot at Hanon Systems around 12:40 p.m. and quickly extinguished the flames.
The cause has been deemed as accidental, due to someone flicking a cigarette butt that wasn’t properly extinguished.
Combined damage between the five cars involved totals more than $20,000.
The Belleville Fire Department is reminding people to extinguish cigarettes properly by putting butts in an approved container.
