It was a smoky afternoon and evening on the west side of Trenton Tuesday.
Large piles of mulch caught fire at a mulch manufacturer along Old Highway 2 just west of town around 4 o’clock in the afternoon.
About 50 firefighters, including some from Brighton, responded and didn’t clear the scene until around 10 o’clock Tuesday night.
About $250,000. damage was done.
Quinte West Fire Chief John Whalen says there was more work for firefighters to do during the mulch fire.
“in the middle of it the OPP called and we had 2 people in distress on kayaks in the Bay of Quinte so our marine unit went out and rendered assistance to them.”
The cause of the mulch fire has been deemed accidental.
