Tweed’s new senior hockey team has it’s name… the Tweed Oil Kings.
General Manager John Desjardins says the name pays tribute to the 1975/76 Tweed BP Oil Kings, who won the All-Ontario Intermediate C Championship.
Desjardins says this year marks the 45th anniversary of that championship and that many residents of Tweed either played for, coached, or watched that team find success.
The original Oil Kings moniker came from its original sponsor, Ken Jeffrey, who was the local BP Fuel agent in Tweed.
The Oil Kings will play in the Eastern Ontario Super Hockey League which also has a team in Deseronto and other member clubs across the eastern part of the province.
