“It’s a historic investment and a recognition of how important our elders and seniors are in our community. So I’m absolutely thrilled to see that they’re making this investment in long-term care homes because our seniors and older adults in our communities deserve it.”
“I think with this investment and the great partnerships we have locally with primary care, many of which are the medical directors and physician supports at the long term care homes, we can provide great care at the homes and not have our older adults and seniors have to travel back and forth to hospital.”
Loyalist President Dr. Ann Marie Vaughan doesn’t know what exactly it will mean for the college but with plans to expand the nursing program underway, it’s good news.
“At this point we’re uncertain, but what I can tell you is, we’re always looking to expand our RPN program and we have been actively working on a stand alone Bachelor of Science and Nursing program and we hope to be admitting students next year.”
“We do have an information session on the Bachelor of Science program at May 18 at 5 p.m. And so anyone thinking about this as a career, a rewarding career, which it absolutely is; this is a great time to be thinking about that.”
