Belleville native Andrew Shaw has been nominated for the NHL’s Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy which goes to the player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey.
Shaw, who retired from the NHL last month after suffering his second concussion in just over a year, is the Chicago Blackhawks nominee for the award as voted upon by the team’s chapter of the Professional Hockey Writers Association.
The 31 nominees will be narrowed to three finalists in a poll by the PHWA members, and the winner will be announced at a later date.
