United Way Hastings & Prince Edward, Habitat for Humanity and Gleaners Food Bank are all sharing a generous gift from the late Dave Vachon, a former editor at the Intelligencer.
Vachon, who was known by his friends as “Rogie,” passed away in December of 2020 from a brain tumor.
An insurance policy named the three organizations as beneficiaries and they will share almost $53,000.
Former Intelligencer colleague, current city councillor and friend Chris Mallette says Dave did not have family and decided everything in his estate should go to charity and friends.
