The mayor of Belleville believes it’s time to change the city’s two ward system.
According to a report in The Intelligencer, Mayor Mitch Panciuk says population in the southern part of Thurlow ward is growing rapidly and suggests the ward is being under-represented on council with only two members.
Panciuk believes the city should have four wards with two councillors each with one ward being the rural part of Thurlow.
The urban areas would be split into three wards.
The mayor’s proposal would mean council would consist of eight councillors and the mayor. The idea is expected to come up at Monday’s council meeting.
