Belleville City Transit has added another layer of protection against COVID-19 for its drivers and riders.
A 15-minute rapid test will allow transit drivers to self-test for the virus three times per week.
The data is collected with no driver specific details and provided weekly to the Ministry of Health.
Transit Services Manager Paul Buck says, “We have worked extremely hard to ensure that transit is safe for our residents and drivers. We understand that this third wave has increased everyone’s anxiety levels and we want to ease that stress by reassuring our community that everything possible is being done to provide a safe transit service. To date there have been no driver cases and no contact tracing of any COVID transmission to or from transit. Safety is paramount and this is yet another way to protect our riders.”
Transit drivers will begin the self-testing process May 7.
