(Parker Kelly congratulated by teammates following his short handed goal vs. Toronto Marlies)
The American Hockey League version of “The Battle of Ontario” belonged to the Belleville Senators this weekend.
The B-Sens followed up Saturday’s 5-3 win over the Marlies in Toronto with a 4-1 victory at Coca Cola Coliseum yesterday.
Parker Kelly and Joseph LaBate scored short-handed goals 1:14 apart mid-way in the first period to give the B-Sens a 3-1 lead. Cole Cassels would extend the lead before the end of the first. It was the 7th of the season for Kelly. There won’t be any Calder Cup playoffs in the AHL this season but Kelly says there’s still plenty to play for.
Rookie Angus Crookshank added his third while goaltender Mads Sogaard stopped 29 shots in his second AHL start.
Belleville coach Troy Mann was impressed with how his team shut down the Marlies over the final 42 minutes of the game.
Joseph Duszak scored Toronto’s lone goal .
Belleville has seven games left in the season. They travel to Laval Friday night.
