The struggles against the Laval Rocket continue for the Belleville Senators after being shut out 3-0 Friday night.
The AHL Canadian Division leading Rocket have beaten the B-Sens seven times in nine meetings this season.
The Senators continued to struggle in generating consistent offence, managing only 12 shots all game.
Laval opened the game with a two-goal first period with goals from Yannick Veilleux and Ryan Poehling.
B-Sens goalie Filip Gustavsson held strong in the second period stopping all 12 shots he saw in the frame but Belleville managed just five shots in the period, unable to capitalize on two power play opportunities.
A third period goal from Laval winger Joel Teasdale sealed the deal on a second straight loss coming off a successful western road trip. Belleville now sits in a three-way tie for third place in the North Division with the Toronto Marlies, who have three games in hand, and the Stockton Heat.
Belleville Head Coach Troy Mann said that he simply expects more from his group.
Audio Player“I think we can play better. I don’t think we did a very good job of generating much offence tonight obviously with only 12 shots, really not getting any sustained O-zone play in the third period.”
There are only seven games left on the schedule for Belleville with four against Manitoba, two against Laval and one against Toronto.
The Senators play against Laval again Saturday at 3 p.m.
