Funding that the Quinte Economic Development Commission received from the province’s Rural Economic Development (RED) program was put to good use.
At the commission’s meeting on Thursday, board members learned that last year’s RED funding helped promote and fill local manufacturing jobs.
The QEDC’s Chief Executive Officer Chris King says jobs were promoted through a radio campaign, digital media and other advertising methods with great success.
“The program helped to fill 119 vacant manufacturing jobs so, you know, it really helped to raise awareness and get more people applying and great feedback from the manufacturers that were a part of it.”
RED funding was also used for the QEDC’s Made in Quinte program which promotes locally made products in grocery and retail stores.
King says that program wrapped up at the end of March but recently announced that funding through Ontario’s Labour Market Partnerships program will allow QEDC to continue to promote the local manufacturing sector and fill available jobs.
The commission will receive $577,500 over the next two years and will use that money to promote the sector not only locally but outside the region.
