Funding for the Elevate Plus program which provides free training for workers to enter local manufacturing and food processing jobs will continue.
Quinte Economic Development Commission CEO Chris King says provincial funding for the program has been extended for another year.
Everyone who completes the program moves onto a full-time, permanent job.
The 24th cohort of the program started on March 22.
King says the Elevate Plus funding will also cover incumbent worker training.
“So people already working in manufacturing that need some skills upgrading, we’ll have dollars to support them to make that happen as well. And there’s certainly an ongoing need. We have industry that are looking for people and this program helps fill some of that void.”
Elevate Plus Military will also continue for another year.
