More Good news for the Belleville Sea Cadets:
At the City of Belleville Grant Committee meeting on April 6, 2021 the Navy League of Canada, Belleville Branch, which supports the Belleville Sea Cadets (RCSCC Quinte) was approved for a Grant of $5,000 through the Arts & Culture funding.
Funds provided by the Grant will be used refurbish and purchase instruments for the Belleville Sea Cadet Corps. All our instruments are old, needing constant repair. Our music director, Brian Couglan, developed his musical talent as a Quinte Cadet, going on to spend his career as a musician with the Canadian Armed Forces. He recognises several of the instruments from when he was a cadet in the 70’s. Refurbishing and supplementing our instruments will be expensive. The Grant will pay for the refurbishing of 4 horns, 3 trombones and purchase 2 used tubas. Cadets are able to achieve positive results more quickly on a quality instrument encouraging them to increase their skills.
Most Belleville citizens recognise the Sea Cadets for their long history of providing band participation in local parades and functions, most notably Christmas parades for Belleville and surrounding Communities. Cadets are provided a musical instrument & instruction free of charge. Former cadets provide much of the ongoing music in Belleville. Our music director, recently retired, is a former Quinte cadet returning to teach our cadets. The recently retired music director at Bayside Secondary School is a former Quinte cadet & officer. Several members of our alumnae band are now musicians in the Belleville Community Band.
Our Sea Cadets are extremely anxious to return to the band and in-person training as soon as Covid Restrictions allow. The goal of the Navy League is to upgrade our band inventory as a welcome back.
Like all Community Organizations, Covid Restrictions have prevented active fundraising. We are extremely grateful to the Grant Committee for this support.
Donations to the Belleville Navy League would be extremely appreciated. Just follow the links on our Web Site at www.bellevilleseacades.com.
