The group lobbying area politicians for money for a feasibility study into a regional energy-from-waste facility made its pitch to Prince Edward County Committee of the Whole on Thursday.
The group is proposing the Five Counties Energy-from-Waste Project, a $200 million regional facility which would incinerate combustible waste collected from Hastings County, Kawartha Lakes, Northumberland, Peterborough and Prince Edward Counties.
The energy produced from that burning would be sold as heat and electricity with the created ash sold to treat roads.
The group is suggesting the facility be built in the Havelock area as it is the geographical centre of the region.
The delegation is asking area councils for money for the feasibility study with each municipality’s share based on their population.
Prince Edward County’s share of that would be just under $10,000.
Many on council expressed interest in the plan.
Committee of the Whole received the report and asked staff to prepare a report on whether the County should participate in the feasibility study.
Hastings County staff recently recommended its council deny a request to be involved as Warden Rick Phillips said there wasn’t much interest from member municipalities at this time.
