A local federal Conservative riding association could be dissolved.
Hastings Lennox and Addington Riding President Carlo Petracca tells Quinte News, he has received a letter from the national party, saying they have begun the process to remove the powers of the local board of directors.
Petracca says the board has written back to the newly elected National Council for clarification.
He says they were notified after MP Derek Sloan, the representative for HL&A, was removed from Conservative caucus.
MP Sloan says his membership was also revoked for “conduct unbecoming a member”.
Audio Player“They cited that as the reason without giving any further clarification on what conduct exactly was unbecoming.”
Sloan also talked to Quinte News about the process to remove the local board.
Audio Player“The board here was upset at what happened to me, they were in favour of me being the candidate here. They were pushing back at the party. The board here was asking for information on why I was being kicked out and all this type of thing. The party wasn’t giving them anything. My board was upset, and they had actually discussed potentially hiring a lawyer to try and get to the bottom of this. At that point the party sent them a notification that they were pulling the plug on the EDA (Electoral District Association). I don’t think that’s been fully finalized, I think that’s a process that takes a couple of months. It has to be fully ratified by national council, but they’ve started the wheels in motion of completely imploding the EDA, and from there who knows what’s going to happen.”
President Petracca says some on the board support Sloan, while others do not. He says their concern is about open and democratic nominations, and transparency.
