Premier Doug Ford says Ontario is shifting its COVID-19 vaccination campaign to prioritize people aged 50 and up in pandemic hot spots to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
These hot spots include about 90 neighbourhoods in 13 public health units.
Hastings Prince Edward Public Health and Haliburton, Kawartha Pine Ridge District Health Unit are not on the list.
These are the 13 public health units that are:
Durham, Halton, Hamilton, Niagara, Ottawa, Peel, Simcoe-Muskoka, Southwestern, Toronto, Waterloo, Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph, Windsor-Essex, and York Region.
However, the province is also moving up the start of vaccinations for essential workers to mid-May from June amid calls for immunizations of those workers to begin immediately.
Ford says his government is working on plans to vaccinate high priority essential workers in places like large plants and meat packers, and to immunize teachers.
