It’s not often a coach pulls his goaltender in a 0-0 tie but the Trenton Golden Hawks had nothing to lose.
The move did backfire as James White scored an empty net goal at 18:52 of the third period to give the Wellington Dukes a 1-0 win and an 11 points to 7 decision over Trenton in the 8th and final game of their Development Series.
Hawks coach Peter Goulet pulled William Nguyen in favour of the extra attacker in hopes of scoring the winning goal and ending the series is a 9-9 tie. Both Nguyen and Wellington’s Ethan Morrow were credited with shutouts. Nguyen says it was kind of strange to have two shutouts in a game that ended 1-0.
The game was the last for a number of players like Wellington’s Ben Addison.
A crazy year that saw the cancellation of the entire OJHL season due to COVID.
