A Belleville Police officer is being praised for his “exemplary work” in finding a missing 14-year-old girl and arresting three people involved in a suspected human trafficking ring earlier this year.
After responding to a missing persons call with another officer on January 17, Constable Kyle Dodds scoured every hotel in the city, along with other locations and was eventually able to track down the missing girl and arrest the three suspects, who were all from the Greater Toronto Area.
In recognizing Dodds in front of the Belleville Police Services Board on Thursday, Chief Mike Callaghan says without the constable’s “intuitiveness, hard work and determination, this crime may have gone undetected and three criminals may not have been brought to justice.”
The police board also recognized IT specialists Joe Myderwyk and Matt Sinclair, for their role in setting up the computer and tech systems in the new police station, along with Staff Sergeant Kristina Paterson for her work in implementing a new evidence processing system and moving the “property room” to the new building.
A handful of other officers, including Sergeant Barry Lannin, Sergeant Dave Johnston, Sergeant Mark Abrams, Staff Sergeant Mike Lockwood, Staff Sergeant Mike Kiley and Inspector Rene Aubertin, were also acknowledged for recent promotions within the police service.
