A year ago today, March 23, the first patient diagnosed with COVID 19 entered a local hospital for treatment.
At a Quinte Health Care Board meeting Tuesday Chief of Staff Dr. Colin MacPherson said a year ago QHC staff and physicians were nervous and scared, entering the unknown.
However, although admitting the staff was fatigued, he said morale remains high as staff did the job they were trained to do and had a lot of support from the entire community.
“As a general rule people are that much more entrenched in their committment to healthcare and there’s a pride in our collective achievement”.
Dr. MacPherson says a lot was learned from dealing with the pandemic and there have been positive changes in the system.
QHC’s Board of Directors formally recognized all staff and physicians at local hospitals with the Values in Action Award.
