Firefighters from Quinte West and Stirling-Rawdon dealt with a large grass fire not far from Oak Lake this afternoon.
Quinte West Chief John Whelan tells Quinte News a couple of fields caught fire near 325 Gallivan Road around 2:45 p.m. and it took 35 firefighters close to half an hour to knock down the flames.
Firefighters also handled a smaller grass fire at 12 O’Clock Point Road, in Carrying Place, as well.
He says people need to understand how dry the conditions are right now and be extra cautious if they are burning outside.
Whelan says he’s not putting a burn ban on just yet, but will be discussing that with other area fire chiefs and will likely put one in place if conditions don’t improve by Thursday.
