A local consulting firm has been chosen to help lay out the services and site plan for the new Quinte Exhibition grounds near Highway 37 and Black Diamond Road in Belleville.
A tender from Greer Galloway Group worth just over $392,000 was approved by Belleville Council on Monday afternoon, with the company set to outline where various municipal services should be installed.
Mayor Mitch Panciuk says the land was never originally intended for development and the company’s work will lay the groundwork for the entire development, including the fairgrounds and future commercial lots.
“We basically have to figure out where we’re going to run electricity, gas, sanitary and water. They’ll look at the best place to locate buildings. It’s quite a comprehensive engineering feat of work, but we’ll put ourselves in a position that we can at least get the fairgrounds set up and then we’ll go back and sever off all of those lots, to sell them in the future.”
Panciuk added that the cost of servicing the entire property should be recovered, once those lots are split off and sold.
The mayor says the expectation is to have tenders for architects to design the fairground buildings go out in May and have any capital items related to the fairgrounds be dealt with in the fall.
