A much larger police headquarters is being highlighted as the main reason for a 6.32% increase in the Belleville Police Service’s 2021 budget.
Chief Mike Callaghan will present budget totalling $20,057,430 for the Police Services Board’s approval at a virtual meeting Thursday morning.
The Chief says the new police station is almost twice the size of the former station and that has led to budgeting for major increases in hydro and natural gas costs.
Hydro is projected to cost 254% more while heating costs are expected to jump 336%.
Meanwhile the board will see information showing that Belleville’s police budget is considerably less than those
in Cornwall and North Bay. Those services have similar numbers of officers and civilian employees.
