Patrons using the facilities at a west end Belleville laundromat were instrumental in keeping a dryer fire from spreading to the rest of the building yesterday (Thursday) afternoon.
Belleville firefighters were called out to a laundromat on College Street West around 4 o’clock and found smoke coming from one of the dryers.
The entire three-unit commercial building was evacuated and the fire was quickly doused.
Fire Prevention Officer Norm Mitts says the actions of customers helped keep the fire isolated to just the one dryer. About $15,000 damage was done and no one was injured.
