A 12-year-old is facing several serious charges after an incident involving a weapon at a local school.
Around 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Quinte West OPP were dispatched to an unidentified school where a youth allegedly used an edged weapon to threaten another student.
The youth ran away when confronted by staff and the school was placed into “lockdown” for the safety of students and staff.
Staff subsequently located the youth and secured him in an office until police arrived on scene.
A 12-year-old Quinte West male has been charged with three counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, assault with a weapon and uttering threats to cause bodily harm or death.
The accused, whose name is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court next month.
