The infestation of gypsy moths continues to be an issue in Quinte West.
According to a report from the Quinte West public works and environment services department, there are approximately 7,000 acres infested with gypsy moths in Quinte West.
City staff continue to advocate for a regional approach for spraying coordinated by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry.
The report says that the Township of Stirling-Rawdon and the City of Belleville don’t have plans to pursue spraying, but that Hastings County is on board with the regional approach.
City staff are recommending that the situation continue to be monitored through 2021, encouraging residents to spray their own properties and to pursue a regional approach through the provincial government.
