Thursday’s barn fire in Stirling-Rawdon was caused by a controlled burn that got out of control due to high winds.
Stirling-Rawdon and Centre Hastings firefighters were called out shortly before noon to a fully engulfed barn fire on Sine Road between the village of Stirling and the hamlet of Springbrook.
Stirling-Rawdon Fire Chief Derrick Little says high winds and dry conditions resulted in flames spreading from the controlled burn to the grass and then the barn.
There were 450 bales of hay in the barn, making the fire difficult to deal with.
Two excavators worked through the day to pull the hay apart allowing the fire to be doused.
There were no injuries.
A damage estimate has not been finalized but Little says it is likely over $100,000.
Little reminds residents to be extremely careful when burning.
