The OPP Emergency Response Team and the Canine Unit were called in to help track a suspect who fled from police Wednesday night.
Around 9:30 p.m., Belleville police contacted Quinte West OPP about a vehicle on Stockdale Road that failed to stop for officers.
OPP deployed a spike belt at Stockdale Road and County Road 33, however police disengaged with the vehicle due to a high risk to public safety.
The vehicle was located shortly after on Spring Street in Trenton and with the assistance of the Emergency Response Team and Canine Unit, the suspect was tracked to a residence on King Street.
Twenty-nine-year-old Cody Laird of Quinte West was charged with:
- Flight from peace officer;
- Dangerous operation;
- Fail to comply with probation order – two counts; and
- Fail to comply with release order
OPP say he was further arrested and charged in connection with a previous incident and on two outstanding arrest warrants:
- Assault – two counts;
- Uttering threats – to cause death or bodily harm;
- Fail to comply with probation – six counts; and
- Fail to comply with a release order
The accused was held for a bail hearing Friday.
