For a second straight year, Prince Edward’s Maple in the County festival has been cancelled due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
2021 would have marked the 20th anniversary of the beloved event.
However, the sap is still running and sugar bushes are still operating offering curbside pick-up and safe shopping options.
Another initiative will support the new Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital.
Michelle Nyman of Nyman Farms says they came up with the idea of Maple To-Go Bags which will be filled with local maple treats.
“We tried to incorporate, kind of, the feel and what people love about Maple in the County into a reusable shopping bag that’s filled with all kinds of goodies. So without giving away everything in them, there’ll be a 500ml bottle of syrup, pancake mix, some other maple-themed treats.”
100% of the proceeds will go to the Back the Build campaign for the new hospital.
“We’ve got nurses in our group and other health care workers plus there’s not a single person in our group and I would, you know, hazard to say, a single person in this community that hasn’t been touched by the hospital. Either personally, by family, by friends, we’ve all been touched by the hospital and what a great cause to give back to.”
One hundred twenty-five bags are being made available for $40/bag.
They can be ordered online with pick-up at the sugar bush of your choice later this month.
